The clerk of Students’ Union Government (SUG) House of Parliament University of Jos, Hon. Peter Ibrahim Guluhun urges students to take responsibility for a safe and healthy learning environment.
The parliamentarian made this disclosure during a one day skill acquisition training and sensitization to mask up against the surging pandemic popularly known as the Covid 19.
The event which took place recently to be précised on 13th February, 2021 at the Students’ Village Hostel Cafeteria, Naraguta campus University of Jos.
The event which drew students from various faculties and campuses was tagged “Mask up UniJos: Social Responsibility as a Sine Quo Non to Safe and Healthy Environment”
Hon. Peter as disclosed that there is great need for students to mask up and take responsibility to stop the spread of the deadly corona virus by putting their face mask correctly, sanitizing their hands with hand sanitizers and observing social distancing.
He also stated that the carelessness of one person can be everybody’s problem. He stressed the need for student to take responsibility of protecting themselves by observing the protocols.
Peter added that the Union has the students at heart and will put every strategy to ensure every student is safe from the pandemic.
In his remark, the chairman of the occasion, Distinguished Senator Tashi Manasseh of Faculty of Arts Constituency and the initiator of the Healthy Environment Campaign tagged “Operation Keep FASA Clean” appreciated the clerk of the SUG house of Parliament for his selfless contribution to the growth of the union.
Senator Manasseh also applauded the parliamentarian for pushing forward to organize the event to help train the students to entrepreneurs for the skills they acquired.
He urged the students to cease this opportunity to learn from the training because it will help some to earn a living.
Earlier on, the former speaker of faculty of social science house of parliament Gospel Jatau appreciated the clerk for organizing such kind of program. He added that “this program has help to build my capacity, it has revived the entrepreneurship zeal and spirit in me. The skill I acquired will go a long way to help me meet my needs.”
As part to make the event practical training on how to make hand sanitizer and liquid hand wash was done. The training was done by Nenky’s World organization. The practical started from the identification of the chemicals, the formation process and down to the packaging process. Items made were given to participants of the training as an appreciation for their commitment to attend the program.
