DURO OLOWU

He is a Nigerian born London based fashion designer. Some of his notable clientele include Michelle Obama, Solange Knowles, Iris Apfel, He is Born of a Jamaican mother and a Nigerian father, he was raised in Lagos, during the crumbling colonial era associated with modernism, especially in the arts London, where he was named New Designer of the Year in 2005 at the British Fashion Awards, the first designer to do so without a catwalk presentation. , In 2009, he was named the Best International Designer by the African Fashion Awards and received one of six nominations for the Swiss Textile Federation’s coveted prize of €100,000

In October 2012, Olowu announced a partnership with J. C. Penney under the label “Duro Olowu”.

In New York, where he shows during the semiannual fashion weeks, he lives with his wife, Thelma Golden, director of the Studio Museum in Harlem.

She surely has entrepreneurship in her blood, coming from a prominent family of Nigerian entrepreneurs and owners of the Elizade Group, originally started by her father and late mother, and today run by her brother. A mother of three, she studied at the University of Miami and University of Lagos and earned a Masters in Finance and Management. She was appointed Nigeria’s representative to the United Nations World Food Program ‘Catwalk the World: Fashion for Food’ with the goal of raising money towards eradicating the number of hungry people in the world, particularly children. she became the first black woman to present a collection at Alta Roma, Rome’s celebrated fashion week in 2004.

She is the founder of the house of Deola Sagoe and the leading lady in haute couture fashion designers having been at the center front of fashion since 1989. She had a cameo appearance in the 2014 movie “October 1”, where she was portrayed as Funmilayo Ransome Kuti. She has been in the fashion industry for 25years.

He has an educational background in Information Systems and Technology; he made the drastic decision of switching careers into the uncertain industry of African fashion, he worked in different positions in the marketing department at British American tobacco Nigeria, later he resigned his job as a Brand Manager at Guinness Nigeria for a job as the Fashion Editor of Genevieve magazine. Coming from a large family of nine children, born in Ile- Ife and spent a lot of his youth in Lagos, Mai attended the University Staff School Benin and later, the Federal Government College, Ondo State. After discovering his endless love for fashion, Mai went on to enroll at the prestigious Savile Row Fashion Academy, to further train as a distinguished tailor. The creative director of an illustrious fashion brand Mai Atafo has enjoyed reputable clientele like Omawunmi Akinnifesi, Banky W, IK Osakioduwa and a host of others.

FOLAKE FOLARIN COKER

She is the founder of Tiffany Amber, a world famous iconic label whose journey  started in Lagos in 1998 and has earned her global recognition over time making her the first African fashion designer to showcase her designs at the new york Mercedes fashion week two years in a row. In 2013 she received an enterprise award at WIE (Women, Inspiration and enterprise) symposium and has also made it to Forbes Power Women in Africa list.

Born in Lagos she did her schooling in Europe (England, Switzerland and Scotland) and has a master degree in petroleum law from Switzerland. With a mixed influenced foreign and local orientation she is able to bring all this cultures into her crafty designs. In 2009, she won designer of the year at the African fashion international in Johannesburg followed by fashion brand of the year in 2011 at the arise magazine fashion week, she is widely reported by media outlets around the globe including Marie Claire, Vogue Italia, BBC and CNN.

ZIZI CARDOW

She is a renowned Nigerian fashion designer creating contempary woman garment inspired by traditional Ankara print with a view to globalizing the African fabric and designs so as to give rise to a proudly Nigerian look.  Starting in 2000 she has been critically praised by some international media including CNN, BBC and channel O, after her first year of emerging into the Nigerian fashion scene, Zizi won the designer of the year award at the Nigerian fashion show in 2001. Zizi’s 2013 collection featured at the African fashion week London 2013. She has won so many notable awards since gracing the Nigerian fashion scene including UN peace ambassador 2010, global leadership award 2010 and merit award for African heritage 2010.
