PRESS RELEASE
4th March, 2023.
ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS, PLATEAU STATE CHAPTER,
KALWA HOUSE, YAKUBU GOWON WAY,
JOS.
APC CALLS ON INEC TO IMMEDIATELY RELEASE THE PLATEAU CENTRAL SENATORIAL RESULT.
The All Progressives Congress in Plateau State hereby calls on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to without futher delay release the result of the Senatorial election for Plateau Central Senatorial District where the party’s candidate, Honourable Diket Plang clearly won with a comfortable margin of over 4 000 ( Four Thousand) votes.
Seven days after the election, it is surprising that INEC is hesitating to announce the result where the APC candidate is clearly the winner even after a meticulous and painstaking recount still saw him as the winner.
The unnecessary delay in announcing the winner is not only raising tension and anxiety in the zone but creating the impression that there is more than meet the eye on the Senatorial election in the area.
The APC condemns the desperation and insinuation by the Peoples Democratic Party in the state which has forcefully occupied the INEC premises at Pankshin and the headquarters in Jos for the past one week with a view to hoodwinking the electoral umpire into announcing its candidate as the winner.
INEC should is therefore advised not to allow itself to be a party to any breakdown of law and order which is what the PDP in the state is trying to do at all cost.
We call for the beefing up of security around INEC facilities in the affected areas prelude to the immediate announcement of the results as collated by INEC.
The APC as a law abiding party would not want to join force with the PDP which is presently demonstrating at the Rantya Road headquarters of INEC which amounts to blackmail and irresponsibility of the highest order.
We appealed to all APC supporters in the state to remain calm as we enjoin INEC to immediately do the needful in line with the electoral law and its constitutional mandate.
Signed:
Hon. Sylvanus Namang,
APC State Publicity Secretary
