Atiku Abubakar – Bola Tinubu – Peter Obi

Now that the primary elections are over, what is left is for the campaign for the 2023 general elections to begin in earnest.

You can even say the campaign has already begun. And it’s looking like it’s going to be yet another PDP versus APC showdown. The race is between Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, and former Lagos State Governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

A very unlikely man in the race who is also getting quite some attention right now is Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, who is under the umbrella of the Labour Party.

The election will be among these three at best. And that’s only because the youths are throwing their weight behind Peter Obi already.

But soon enough your favorite celebrities will start picking sides and endorsing candidates. It happened every time, no matter how bad a government is or a candidate is, there’ll always be stars campaigning for them.

In the aftermath of the Buhari administration’s atrocious failure, though, many celebrities who campaigned for him have come under fire. At the very least, they have been dragged, especially by Youths on Social Media.

The idea is that these celebrities make people vote for candidates they know nothing about just to line their pockets. And that’s not okay.

For instance, not too long ago, alternative artist Brymo, expressed his support for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In the tweet, he referred to him as a ‘City Boy’ and ‘the one with the plan.’ It didn’t take long before Twitter users started ripping him and cursing him out for that vocal support for a candidate who many think is not fit to be president.

But it’s his choice, of course. And he has the same right as anyone to vote for any candidate of his choice. He’s also just like any other celebrity who hasn’t been vocal about who they support. Because, at the very least, they’re gonna vote for someone. So the only thing he did wrong was not keeping his opinion on Tinubu to himself?

Which brings us to if celebrities should have the right to express who they support in elections, especially when we know they can influence the outcome?
