LISTEN NOW:- Victor AD – “Nothing To Prove” Full EP Is Out

Victor AD has been around for a while, but please don’t listen to him, he still has a lot to prove.

Well, not a lot. Because in the music industry, you’re either getting it or you’re not. You’re either making hits, or you’re not. Victor AD was not.

But that guy that came with “Wetin You Gain” and went viral, the guy that did “Tire You” with Davido, that guy, has a lot of potentials and no one can deny it. That guy can become the next big thing from the South after Timaya.

He’s got the talent, the vocals, his songwriting is top-notch, he’s got the reach and the following. You don’t really need more than that if you’re gonna be successful.

Since his 2019 Next Rated nomination, he hasn’t made a hit song, and frankly, he’s not exactly been consistent.

It’s simple, Victor AD is stuck in a phase where most of his songs come out average. It’s just a phase, it’s supposed to pass. Maybe another EP will help him get back to his former elite self?

Nothing To Prove” comes in at six tracks, and unlike his debut, “Red Eye,” he’s got a couple of guest artists on this one. There’s PhynoMr. Eazi, and Lava Lava.

The EP is simply a 17-minute average fest of music you can’t sing along to, or even grasp by listening once. Yes, after listening over and over, the songs will start growing on you.

The problem with it is this is different from Victor AD that’s always talking about the hustle and stuff like that. This is a Victor AD that’s trying to evolve, trying to transit into a proper pop sensation.

Besides “Bless Boys,” there’s no song you can liken to all of his viral hits. For example, “Black” with Mr. Eazi is the most afro thing AD has ever done. Take it out of the project, it becomes a solid single, but even a Mr. Eazi feature can’t save a project like “Nothing To Prove.”

There’s no consistency in the sounds, and all the songs are not related or connected, not really. It’s just a bunch of songs, and really that’s all it is.

Olofofo,” which has been released prior to the EP release, stands out as a track worthy of rotation. “Anymore” with Phyno was really unnecessary and “One Kiss” is as average as the rest of the EP. “Joanna” with Lava Lava, now that’s a song. At least it’s got some groove.

In essence, “Nothing To Prove” is not better than “Red Eye” (that’s a trend we’ve been seeing lately), but if there’s ever gonna be a manifestation of Victor AD, this is where it would have started from.

For everyone who gives the EP a chance and plays it more than once, over and over, you’ll find that Victor AD has really got something to offer.

But for hasty people, interested in hits and songs of the moment, I’m sorry “Nothing To Prove” is just not for you.

Rating: 7/10
