Joe Heman of ‘Mainstream’ caught up with Jos based fast rising highlife artiste, De Jeac who is well known for his collaboration with Classiq on the song, ‘Sorry for you’. He also released another explosive track recently titled ‘Proposal’ (links below). Check out De Jeac talking about his life & music.
Hello De Jeac, nice to meet you. So let’s start the conventional way by asking how did you chose the name De Jeac?
The name De Jeac, J.E.A.C are the initial letters of my names.
So where did you grow up? The places that influenced your music.
I grew up in Jos, And started my music in Jos… so I’d say Jos influenced me
How did you get into the industry and how long have you been in the industry for?
I have been doing music for a while but professionally since 2011. I have gone through different phases from Jos, to Abuja and then Lagos. So I would say I have been around for quite some time. And to answer your first question, I love music and found out that I can do it so I started.
Do you have a style of music? A kind of sound that you’ll like to be known for?
I enjoy all types of music and sounds. But I tend to prefer highlife music. I think it really allows the artiste express themselves. Not to say this can’t be done with other sounds. And also because i do it better than others.
Do you know when a track is going to be bigger than the previous one?-If yes, how do you know?
Yes I know, I know when my track will be bigger than the previous, and how I do know I wouldn’t want to expose it.
Do you write all your songs by yourself? Which have you written? What songwriters have you worked with?
Yeah I write everything myself. I let artistes who work with me write themselves so they sound original too.
