Consistent with the TIME IS NOW leadership mantra of His Excellency, Barr Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Caroline Panglang Dafur and her team of directors have taken time out for the first familiarization visit since assumption of office to some special homes, the Aisha Manna Orphanage Home and The Young People’s Home.
The passionate and compassionate Commissioner whose track records of empathetic and humanitarian services are never in doubt familiarized with the staff, had a first hand on-site assessment of the environment, the facilities and see the well-being of the children in both homes. Hon. Dafur was quoted as saying that
“this is part of our core mandate and in line with His Excellency’s vision for the Plateau women and children; to see to their well-being and development”
The Honourable Commissioner went round the facilities and interacted with the kids to see for herself how they’re faring. Admitting the need to draw government’s attention to these centres, Hon Dafur said:
“Of course, alot need to be done to better the conditions, they’re faced with a lot of challenges ranging from shortage of man power, security and medical personnel, poor medical facilities, dilapidated structures and poor supplies of food and provisions”
She continued that the Young People’s Home is so redundant, as the skill acquisition center is not properly being put to use which should be part of the correctional activities for the kids to add value to their lives and the society when the leave”
The Commissioner in her words also added that she has interacted with the wife of the executive governor of Plateau State, her Excellency Barr. Helen Mutfwang, and she can boldly say for sure, she’s so passionate about the well-being and development of women, children and the vulnerable in the society.
She promised that they will put heads together to work out solutions to these challenges and ensure their living conditions are greatly improved.
For the urgent need of food and supplies, she assured the officers in charge of her swift intervention to this regards, saying
” I will treat as an emergency to get an immediate solution, and ensure pro-activeness henceforth to ensure a smooth and consistent chain of supplies”
She however charged the staff and officers in charge of these centres to continue to put in their best, as this administration has the centres at heart and will prioritize their welfare and working conditions.
Hon. Dafur also paid a visit to the Multipurpose Women Development Center at Tafawa Belewa Jos to assess it’s productivity and state of facilities as well as equipments, and to see areas where she can improve on for effective utilization of the center and boast revenue generation for her ministry.
Addressing the staff at the centre, the Commissioner said
”My team and I have hit the ground running to ensure we change the tide of things around so as to ensure we genuinely and tangibly advance the course of our women, children, aged and the physically challenged, we will ensure we leave no stone unturned to better the living conditions of these people and empower our women”
